چکیده

A crucial element in the practical solution of combustion instability problems in rocket motor development programs is the accurate interpretation of data secured in pulsed motor stability testing. There presently exist no universally accepted or wellestablished methods for carrying out this type of data analysis. Most investigators apply only linear combustion instability theory; any attempted nonlinear interpretation is then entirely qualitative. Availability of some new high-quality nonlinear experimental data collected in an international collaborative research program presents the opportunity to reexamine the data interpretation methodology currently employed. These data sets contain much information that has not been fully explained, nor have they been subjected to searching scrutiny from the standpoint of nonlinear instability theory. In particular, information of direct value in producing an improved nonlinear instability theory and data reduction procedure is evident in the published material. In this paper, presently accepted nonlinear instability concepts are critically examined from the standpoint of both their correspondence to the observations and their use as diagnostic tools. Suggestions are made for improved experimental techniques and for new directions in the development of practical theoretical models.

Anomaly detection in thermal pulse combustors using symbolic time series analysis

This paper presents symbolic time series analysis of observable process variables for anomaly detection in thermal pulse combustors. The anomaly detection method has been tested on the time series data of pressure oscillations, generated from a non-linear dynamic model of a generic thermal pulse combustor. Results are presented to exemplify early detection of combustion instability due to reduc...

Nonlinear theory of combustion stability in liquid rocket engine based on chemistry dynamics

Detailed models of combustion instability based on chemistry dynamics are developed. The results show that large activation energy goes against the combustion stability. The heat transfer coefficient between the wall and the combust gas is an important bifurcation parameter for the combustion instability. The acoustics modes of the chamber are in competition and cooperation with each other for ...

Time Irreversibility of Cycle-by-Cycle Engine Combustion Variations

Spark-ignition engines exhibit patterns of increasing instability as engine fueling goes from stoichiometric to lean. The observation of time irreversibility in cycleresolved combustion measurements indicates that this combustion instability is inherently nonlinear. Using time return maps and symbolic time-series analysis, we demonstrate the presence of strong time irreversibility in experiment...

Detection of lean blowout in a premixed gas-turbine model combustor based on nonlinear dynamics

A detection method of lean blowout in a laboratory-scale premixed gas-turbine model combustor has been proposed from a view point of nonlinear dynamics. The translation error, which quantifies the degree of the parallelism of trajectories in the phase space constructed from the time-series data of the combustion-chamber pressure fluctuations, is used as a detector in this work. The dynamic beha...
